Our client is a major port operator with a strong presence across the UK, this company is going through a period of significant change and modernisation. Against a backdrop of challenging market conditions, the business is developing new ways to partner with customers whilst nurturing a high-performing culture across its operations.
The business was seeking a high-calibre leader to deliver transformational change at one of its key strategic facilities through a multidisciplinary team covering Stevedores, maintenance, marine operations, port operations and security operations. The emphasis of the role was on engaging a well-established workforce in a unionised environment, working collaboratively to implement new, more efficient practices aligned to demanding quality, health and safety and productivity targets.
The primary requirement was for a transformational leader with a strong track record gained managing change in an operational environment. As a result, the search was broad and focused on the identification of candidates with the right skills and competence as opposed to industry knowledge. The assignment resulted in the appointment of a candidate with blue chip experience gained across multiple manufacturing and service sector organisations. The strength of the shortlist also led to the creation of a new Business Improvement role and the appointment of second high potential candidate.
