New CEO for Overview Ltd.

Overview Ltd.Overview Ltd in south west London was founded by David Watkins fifteen years ago and is now a leading supplier of OEM CCTV systems into a variety of demanding and high value niche applications in surveillance and security, audiovisual/broadcasting and related markets. Its customers are large global brand names and include specialist CCTV systems integrators as well as OEMs who seek to exploit the unique innovative electric motor control technologies in their camera products. Overview’s success to date is largely due to the vision and engineering prowess of its founder, who created an entrepreneurial environment attractive to high calibre engineers, providing them with a unique career experience in a highly regarded specialist business.

Having focused on developing unique technologies and supplying one of the world’s leading CCTV systems integrators as a client, David Watkins recognised that it was time to take the company to the next level of scale and performance. He appointed an independent Chairman, John Coleman, to assist him with the leadership transition challenge. Based on a strong track record in recruiting CEOs into this type of company and an appreciation of the particular challenges that they face during leadership transition, Wickland Westcott was selected to lead the search to identify and recruit a successor-CEO. We spent a significant amount of time at the start of the assignment talking to David and John about the business, its history and future direction. It was important to understand the journey that David had travelled so far, his vision for the future and where he felt the opportunities might lie. John was able to add objectivity and a vital sounding board as we drew up the ideal candidate profile.

The search strategy was designed to target those individuals who would bring experience of managing change during leadership transition, together with commercial expertise in product innovation and identification of opportunities to evolve into new applications and markets. The close alignment of the Chairman and the founder regarding the ideal candidate profile enabled us to narrow a large field of interested individuals to a high quality shortlist, which presented a close fit with the requirements of the assignment brief.

Graham Jones was selected as Overview’s new CEO. An engineer by training, Graham’s background was in electromechanical devices and associated software. Previously with Thales, Rockwell Collins and Racal Acoustics, Graham brought the experience of commercialising new product innovations both within small independent companies, as well as autonomous divisions within large multinationals.
